FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: window murals

How long does a window mural take?

The entire process can take a few weeks, depending on the number of iterations in the design phase, and scheduling. Typically, the smaller the mural, the faster the process. If you need the work done soon, or by/on a certain date, I can usually accommodate.

Installations typically take around 6 hours, and I’ve worked on murals between 4 & 20 hours, depending on the size.

How far will you travel?

The sky is the limit! I am willing to travel as long as lodging can be provided and a minimum can be reached. The farthest I’ve traveled to date is 2 hours, but I’d love to expand my reach!

What materials do you use?

I use acrylic paint. It is the most durable, and easy to use (also easy to remove). I sometimes use a translucent paint for a stained glass affect.

Do you paint on the inside or outside?

Usually, I paint on the inside, but sometimes it makes more sense to paint on the outside. Depending on your specific circumstances, we will make the decision together. Sometimes there are objects in front of the window that can’t be moved, or there is a tinting film over the window on a certain side that can’t be painted over.

How do the paintings hold up in weather, are they water-proof?

The paintings hold up surprisingly well to weather when painted on the outside. They will not last as long as an indoor mural, but, if they are left untouched, the outdoor paintings can last for at least 1 season or longer depending on the circumstances.

Do the colors fade?

Over time, some colors may fade especially if in direct sunlight for long periods of the day. If the window is exposed to sun all day, colors like yellow and red may start fading in 2 to 3 months, otherwise they can last up to 8 months and beyond depending on the circumstances.

Can I clean the windows?

No. Cleaning the windows will remove the paint. I recommend cleaning around the painting- being careful not to spray directly on the glass, rather spray into the cloth, then wipe. A feather duster works well when used lightly over the painting to remove dust.
